Why the Right Perspective is Essential for Single Mothers

Yes, I’m a single mother raising three spirited kids.  As with raising any child, they each have their own needs and I must gear my parenting differently for each one of them, because that’s what they deserve.  It takes a lot of energy, and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

It can be difficult at times, to be sure.  There are three of them and just one of me.  There’s the energy it takes to raise them each as they need, plus all of the daily things that must be taken care of:  love, laughter, food, clothing, schooling (of whatever kind), sports, proper hygiene… A lot goes into raising kids.  Especially when you’ve always done it mostly by yourself.

I am blessed to have co-parents who are amazingly involved and always there for their kids.  No question.

But I am still the main raiser-of-the-kids.  And yes, it’s taught me many, many wonderful things, not the least of which is that I CAN DO ANYTHING.

I don’t want it to be one of those “you’ve survived that you can survive anything” type deals, though.

I prefer to look at my experience raising these amazing humans as preparation for more extraordinary things, not the build up of some strength I might need for something treacherous in the future.

I choose now (after much work at changing my perspective on life and how I want to live it) to view this parenting journey as a revelation.

It’s revealed the parts of me that have always been strong, that have always been so damn good at knowing who needs what in the moment, and that have known when I need to woman-up and do better.

So yes, I can do anything.  I guess I’ve always been able to.  Perspective.  It’s exceptionally important.

Love and light,

Melissa
